Kitchen Extractors

Kitchen Extractors

During the design process, it is too easy to overlook the complexity of extraction. Old school solutions like recycling extractors will always be around and some have developed the basic concept so that the extractor itself is an iconic feature in the kitchen.

Kitchen Extractors
How has the humble extractor been developed?

Externally ducted cooker hoods can offer benefits like noise reduction, but it’s important to take into account that the extraction system has to work efficiently. The extractor often has to be installed on an outside wall limiting the design concepts.

Over the years Extractor performance and size has increased in diameter to 150mm, which is now the norm. This has allowed fan size to be increased which in turn demands large diameter ducting and ideally a short straight duct length.

No matter how powerful the fan is the ducting will only allow a fixed volume of air to pass through it.  If there are too many or tight bends or even long straight ducts, During the design process it is too easy to overlook the complexity of extraction. No matter how powerful the fan is the ducting will only allow a fixed volume of air to pass through it.  If there are too many or tight bends or even long straight ducts, these features will restrict the efficiency of the ducting system and the extractors performance.

Special ducting is available that will allow the fan to work efficiently where the duct length is up to 6 meters any shallow bends are limited to no more than 6. Normal ducting cannot achieve this. Acoustic insulation is available that significantly reduces noise.

Recently down draft extraction systems have been developed.

The duct can now become integrated into the hob.

Caple Induction HobDowndraft ducting can be run behind the base unit to floor level and out under the cabinets or floor.  This creates space in the base unit for extra draws and storage.  Caple offers the first downdraft extractor to feature cutting-edge Plasma Technology. This technology is built into its 90cm induction hob, which has 4 zones, 10 power levels, boil control and keep warm functions. The extractor has 2 filters, plasma and charcoal and achieves a 650m3/hr extraction rate.

Miele offers down draft extraction in its TWOINONE KMDA range of induction hobs. Its connectivity 2 technology determines the correct fan setting and regulates it during cooking. The extractor has a stainless steel grease filter that can be cleaned in the dishwasher and achieves a maximum extraction rate of 570m3/hr.

Miele TWOINONE INDUCTION HOBMost appliance manufacturers offer a downdraft solution.

Is extraction complex, it can be but there are solutions available that can make your cooking experience more pleasant when these are selected early in the kitchen design process.

At 1stBathrooms.com we offer both Caple & Miele appliances. We can get the best for your budget as well as help select the best appliances for your kitchen. Contact Steve at 1st Bathrroms and Kitchens for more information.
